Cub Camp 2026

Adventure at Gilwell Park

This year, 22 Cubs and 5 leaders headed off for a weekend of adventure at Gilwell Park, the home of Scouting, for our Cub Camp 2026!

The weekend started with one of the most exciting parts for the Cubs — travelling by minibus! For some, that was almost an adventure in itself, but once we arrived at Gilwell, the real fun could begin.

We stayed in bell tents, giving the Cubs a proper camping experience, and the Cubs and leaders cooked all of our meals ourselves throughout the weekend. There was plenty to do, plenty to eat and, as always, plenty of teamwork needed to keep everything running smoothly.

The Cubs took part in a fantastic range of adventurous activities, putting their skills, courage and teamwork to the test. They also had the opportunity to learn about the history of Gilwell Park and its importance to Scouting, making the weekend about much more than just having fun.

And then there was the weather...

Despite it being a summer of record temperatures and heatwaves, somehow we managed to choose the one weekend of torrential rain! ☔

The rain certainly made things interesting. By the end of the weekend, there was mud everywhere, and absolutely nothing seemed to stay dry for very long. Saturday evening presented a particular challenge when we tried to light the campfire — with everything thoroughly soaked, getting a fire going was no easy task!

But did the rain stop us having a brilliant weekend? Absolutely not!

The Cubs embraced the mud, got stuck into every activity and showed fantastic resilience throughout the weekend. There were plenty of laughs, plenty of adventures and, no doubt, a few very muddy clothes heading home!

It was a fantastic weekend of adventure, friendship, teamwork and Scouting, and the Cubs should be incredibly proud of themselves.

Rain, mud and all — we can't wait for the next one - 2027 when we travel to Oxford!
